This is my Primary School -- Mattar East Primary School! I studied there from 1978-1983. It is a small small school, i think smaller than the Parade Square/CarPark of a Modern School! Most of the time, i lived in tears and fear in my Primary School. . . low self-esteem and low in confidence. my teachers were very strict and fierce de... still remember Wang Lao Shi, he would use wooden ruler to smack us , as he walks down the column, so that everyone gets into a traight line. fail spelling also get whacked on the palms... I still remember my classmate, Pornchai Suphakiatkumchorn, but cannot find him le... most likely he would have forgotten me le. Took this picture this Monday, while i visited MacPherson Primary , next to it. Now Mattar East Primary School is no longer existence, except the Physical Building . Too bad, i was her top pupil for PSLE, should have kept the Board that they scribed my name ther. ha ha .... everyday, i go to school with 40 cents ! eat noodles 20cents. 10 cents buy drink. 10 cents buy titbits. My Dad and Mum are very nice people. They worked very hard to bring my 3 brothers and me up. Six of us stayed in a single bedroom flat at Block 17, 40D, Merparti Road. Cannot imageine hor, six persons sleep in one bedroom. . .! what do you think? do you love you primary ? MJR ex-pupils, heard that there is a gathering for after Tea as a farewell for the school @ Sims Drive ...,. MJR shifting by end of this year. next year , we will be @Ubi ave 1!!!! I will miss this school @ Sims Drive . ha ha ...

Born 1983, I studied Primary 1 in Tanjong Rhu Primary School (current Duman High location - not Duman Sec.) in 1990 and Primary 2 to Primary 5 in Guillemard Primary School (where all the strongest friendships were forged and maintained (= even until today after some of us had already became mothers!) from 1991 to 1994, and lastly Primary 6 in Mountbatten Primary School in 1995.

And so, 1996 - 2000 in MJRSS =D

Last time my time teachers can whack students, rulers, feather dusters, canes, you name it. And worst still, parents think/agree it's teachers' right to punish student physically because they believe the theory of “不打不成材”!

Recounting back, I had been slapped on the cheek, had my hairs and ears pulled, arms pinched, and of course those rulers/feather dusters/canes treatments.

I used to think 当老师 sure very 短命,haha, cause everyday have to get angry, and dunno why have to get angry over every little things.

But nowadays kids so good, no need kena all these... If teacher touch only, parent can complain all the way up to Ng Eng Hen. (LOL)

As for the gathering, so far haven't receive any emails or info from the school alumni yet leh. Is it still Kelvin Ng?

Hi Mr Gui, I graduated from Mattar East in 1984, one yr after you. Of course I remember Mr Heng, the discipline master, who always walk around the sch with this big, thick cane in his hand. Mr Cheng, the science teacher who speak English with a strong Chinese essence. Mr Wu, the skinny tall teacher with a big mole on his face. I'm one of the prefect in 1983 & 1984. But guess you & me are from the different sch session. I'm from the extended class, my form teacher then was Ms Daisy Koh. She was the most wonderful teacher I ever had. She taught us with all her heart even though we were from the condemned class. I have been trying hard to locate her but to no avail. :-(
